My best friend was wrong about cast iron seasoning and I wasted 3 months scrubbing rust

I spent 3 months treating my Lodge skillet like it was glass, scrubbing it raw every time after cooking eggs. Then my friend Ellie told me I was just removing the seasoning over and over again. Now I barely wash it with soap and cook bacon twice a week and it's blacker than my ex's heart. Has anyone else been doing it wrong this whole time?

Wait, hold on. Are you telling me @smith.nancy actually watched them struggle for months? Like she just stood there while he was scrubbing his pan with steel wool? That's wild. I can't even imagine the conversation when she finally spoke up. Did she just casually say "hey, fun fact, you're ruining that thing" after all that time? I'd lose my mind if someone let me destroy my cookware for that long.

honestly i bet ellie was just waiting to see how long you'd keep it up for a laugh cause that's some next level trolling lol. like three months of scrubbing a cast iron is basically a rite of passage at this point, everyone i know has done something equally dumb with theirs. but hey, at least you ended up with a sick ex joke out of it so that's a win in my book.
