Portable AC in Phoenix was a $450 mistake

Moved into a place with no central air near Camelback in July. The dual hose unit cooled one room okay but pulled 1200 watts, my electric bill jumped $90 in a month. Should have just bought a used window unit for $150 and called it a day. Anyone else get burned by portable ACs in small apartments?
