Rant: Found out my grandpa's 1987 Ford truck gets better gas mileage than my 2023 hybrid

Looked up the specs after he bragged about it at dinner last month. 20 mpg city for his old inline-six versus my 18 mpg hybrid that cost me $32k. Makes me wonder if all that tech is really progress or just marketing hype.

Progress" just means they figured out how to charge more.

Ha I just read something about how a major brand quietly shrank their packaging last year but kept the same price. So yeah progress is just corporate speak for "we found a way to charge you more for less.

Has this shrinkflation thing just become the standard move for every big company now? I noticed it with a bag of chips I buy regularly, same price but the bag feels lighter and there's more air inside. It's like they're betting we won't notice or just won't bother complaining about it.
