Showerthought: I called cast iron a scam for 4 yrs, then my grandma's 60 year old pan cooked eggs better than my $90 nonstick
I swore it was just boomer nostalgia and too much work, but she handed me that pan last Thanksgiving and I haven't touched the nonstick since. The thing is older than me and slides eggs out clean with barely any oil. So is there any actual reason to own a nonstick pan anymore, or did I just waste 90 bucks?
My mom gave me her old Griswold about 3 years ago when she moved into a smaller place. Same deal, I thought it was all hype until I fried an egg in it with like half a teaspoon of butter and it just floated around. What got me was how it handles heat, no hot spots like my old nonstick that warped after a year. I still keep one cheap nonstick around for stuff like fish or delicate stuff but honestly it mostly sits in the cabinet now. The cast iron just does more and it's not gonna flake into my food after a couple years of use.
