Told me my garlic press was ruining my cooking. I switched to a knife.
A chef at a dinner party watched me crush garlic and said the press releases bitter compounds from the cloves. I started mincing by hand three months ago. Does anyone else think the press is actually fine and she was just being picky?

Yeah that whole "bitter compounds" thing is kinda like how people say you gotta toast spices or bloom them first. It's a real thing but honestly most of us aren't gonna notice the difference in a home cooked meal. It's like that thing where someone points out a tiny flaw and suddenly you can't unsee it even though you were perfectly happy before.

Oh man, I bet that chef just had bad timing. You could totally argue the press saves you from handling raw garlic with wet hands which is a whole different kind of bitter mistake.
