Walked into my garage last week and saw my lawnmower covered in rust

I left it sitting outside all winter because I thought the plastic cover was enough protection. Three months of rain and snow turned the blade into a orange mess. Have any of you folks actually gotten a blade back to normal after that much rust?

Can you just hit it with a wire brush and call it good? That's what I did with my old mower and it cut fine after that. Slap some oil on there when you're done and you'll be set lol.

Doesn't a wire brush leave scratches that trap more rust later?

Ha, good point. Yeah, those scratches hold moisture like a sponge. In my experience, you're better off with a flap disc or sandpaper if you want to keep the rust from coming back twice as fast. A wire brush makes it look clean for about a day, then you've got a whole new problem.
