Debating the 'Captain Underpants' ban at my local library board meeting
Last month I went to the library board meeting in my town of Springfield because they were voting on whether to keep 'Captain Underpants' in the kids section. One mom said it encourages bad behavior and potty humor, but a teacher argued it gets reluctant readers to pick up books, and she had 60 kids in her class who loved it. The board split 3-2 to keep it, but the ban talk is still going on in our parent Facebook group. So I'm curious, where do you draw the line between harmless fun and a book that actually harms kids, or is it all just about personal taste?

Tough spot to be in, and I get why it's got folks fired up. Glad the board at least kept it for now, sounds like the teacher made a pretty solid case.

Did your friend ever get stuck waiting on a school board vote that took forever, or was that just mine?

I see you think the teacher made a solid case, but I really don't see it that way. The board keeping it for now just kicks the can down the road, so nothing actually gets solved for anyone. If the case was that strong, they should've just made a call instead of leaving everyone hanging.
