Spotted a banned book display at my local library in Portland today
I walked into the main branch on 10th Avenue and saw a whole shelf of challenged books right up front with a sign that said 'Read Banned Books' and like 15 people were standing around looking at it, has anyone else seen libraries doing this more lately?

No way, people were just standing around staring at the display like that? That's wild to me! I'm honestly shocked they even had that many people stop to look, especially on a random weekday in Portland. @shane_clark made a great point though about just asking the librarians for help grabbing specific books. I'd probably do that too since those displays get picked over crazy fast once word spreads. It's kind of sad that some people get so worked up over a few books just sitting on a shelf for anyone to read.

Grab a few of those books while you can, they usually switch them out fast when people start complaining. If you really wanna make a statement, check the library's website for their next banned books event and show up early.

Did you ever try asking the librarians directly? I did that at my local library a few years back when they had a similar display. I walked up to the desk and just asked if they could hold a couple of the more popular titles for me before the event started. They were really helpful and actually set aside two books I wanted. It's worth a shot if you want to make sure you get your hands on something specific before the crowd shows up.
