The librarian at my kid's school fought to keep a book, then it disappeared anyway
Last month our school board voted to pull 'The Giver' from 7th grade reading after one parent complained, and the librarian I talked to said she'd appealed it twice with no luck. Has anyone else had a book they liked vanish from their local school despite staff pushing back, and did you do anything about it beyond signing petitions?

Went through this exact thing with my town two years back. A parent pitched a fit about a book on the Civil War, said it was too graphic. The librarian fought hard, wrote letters, even brought in historians. Board still pulled it. What finally worked was showing up to the next board meeting with a stack of student essays about why the book mattered. Kids said it out loud, and the board voted to bring it back. Weird thing is, the librarian who pushed so hard retired right after. Guess she was tired of the fight. Petitions feel empty, but faces in a room change minds.

Faces in a room" also get bullied into folding. Those kids won.
