The 'Scary Stories' series is still locked up in my old school, 20 years later

Went back to my hometown in Ohio for a visit and peeked into the school library. That series by Alvin Schwartz is still off the shelves, same as when I was a kid in the early 2000s. People always act like it's about the gross pictures, but the real reason it got challenged was parents thinking it gave kids nightmares or made them too curious about death. I remember checking it out like 8 times and I turned out fine, lol. What I notice people get wrong is they assume it's a modern censorship thing, but this fight has been going on for 30 plus years now. The librarian told me they keep it in a locked drawer for 'special requests,' which feels more weird than just having it out. Has anyone else seen a book get quietly hidden instead of fully banned, and does that make it worse or better?"}
