That $200 'premium' podcast microphone I bought off a hype thread
I saw this mic getting hyped on a music production forum and figured it was the secret to good audio. Spent $200 on it and after three weeks of messing with gain levels and pop filters, my recordings sounded exactly the same as my old $40 headset. The forum thread got deleted a few days later, and I think half the people shilling it were just resellers. I even tried returning it and the company ghosted me after I sent it back. Has anyone else lost cash on a piece of gear that was just marketing fluff?

Sure you weren't just overthinking the gain settings yourself?

Saved up for a good audio interface first, @jessica707, and that made all the difference with my cheap mic.

Wait, did you check if the mic had a built-in preamp or if you needed an audio interface to even run it right? I once bought a "studio grade" condenser mic for $150 and spent a month wondering why it sounded like I was talking through a tin can before I realized my laptop couldn't power it without a phantom power supply. Ended up using it as a very expensive paperweight for two years until I found that out. So yeah, probably not all resellers, just a lot of people who didn't read the manual either.
