Can we talk about how I ruined 6 clipper blades before I got the clue?

I spent a whole year thinking you had to zero gap every blade to get a clean fade. Then a barber at my shop in Tampa, AJ, watched me for 5 minutes and pointed out my lever was set wrong the whole time. I was forcing the blade down way too hard and chipping the teeth. First time I just set the blade flush and used the lever right, I got a smoother fade in half the time. Now I keep 4 blades in rotation and haven't wrecked one in 3 months. Anyone else have a moment where they realized they were overcomplicating a basic thing?

You ever just sit there and wonder how much time you could've saved if someone had told you that one simple trick from the start? I did the same thing with my adjustable lever, once you get that right it's like night and day.

Man that adjustable lever thing is one of those details nobody tells you about until you've already wasted a bunch of time fighting with it. I messed around for weeks before a buddy casually mentioned it over coffee and I felt kind of dumb. Your mileage may vary, but once I got mine dialed in it really did change everything about how the thing performed. Just wish somebody had pointed it out sooner, that's for sure.

I get what you're saying about wishing someone had pointed it out sooner... but honestly I kind of see it the other way. That whole process of fighting with it and figuring it out myself is what actually helped me understand how the thing works in the first place. If someone just told me the trick right away I probably would've forgotten it or not really gotten why it mattered. Those weeks you mentioned... that's just part of learning, you know? Not everything needs a shortcut.
