Clipper oil debate: I was a WD-40 guy for years until last week
I used to think spending $8 on actual clipper oil was a scam. Been using WD-40 on my Oster 76s for like 5 years and they ran fine. Then last week a guy at the shop in Austin told me to try his Andis Cool Care because the WD-40 was gumming up the gears over time. I was skeptical but tried it on one clipper. The difference in noise and smoothness was immediate. Now I gotta switch all my tools over. Any of you guys have a brand you swear by or is the cheap stuff still fine?

Did you notice any heat difference with the WD-40 after running it long sessions?

My buddy Mark tried it on his lathe and said @troy_price the spindle ran noticeably cooler.

Mark's right, I've been running it on my mill for about 6 months now and the spindle definitely stays cooler even after 4-5 hour sessions. I used to have to let it cool down for 15 minutes before going again but now it's barely warm to the touch. The WD-40 seems to handle the heat better than standard cutting oil, doesn't get that burned smell either. Plus it doesn't leave that sticky residue that regular oil does, so cleaning up the ways is way easier at the end of the day.
