Found out my clipper blades were dull because I cleaned them wrong for 3 years

Last week I was struggling with a fade on a regular client in Detroit, and he asked why I was pulling so hard. I blamed the hair texture but he pointed at my clipper and said it sounded different. I went home and actually read the instructions on my Wahl clipper oil for the first time. Turns out you're supposed to wipe the blade clean before oiling, not just dump oil on top of hair gunk. Has anyone else been doing it wrong this whole time?

Oh man, I did the exact same thing for like two years... just kept pouring oil over the hair dust thinking it was fine. I finally figured it out when my Andis blade started getting hot and I saw all that crusty buildup underneath. Felt so dumb when I realized you gotta brush it clean first, oil the little holes, then wipe off the extra.

@claire_davis31 you're right about brushing first, but that Oster oil trick actually does help sometimes.

Okay but hear me out... I actually think dumping oil on top of the gunk works fine if you're using the right kind of oil. @claire_davis31 I've been doing it that way for 5 years with my Oster 76s and they're still smooth as butter. You just gotta use a heavier oil that cuts through the dust instead of sitting on top of it. That thin Wahl stuff just floats on the crud, that's your real problem.

You ever seen what happens when you don't clean em first? Buddy of mine melted a blade that way.
