Had a guy come in yesterday wanting a 'simple trim' that turned into a 3-hour color correction on his DIY box dye job.

Honestly, the real cost here is the lost appointment slot. Tbh that stylist could have booked two other clients in that three hour window. It's not just about the money he paid, it's about the money she didn't make because her whole schedule got wrecked. That kind of thing can ruin your whole day's pay.

But is one missed slot really that big of a deal? Most stylists I know build some buffer time into their day for clean-up or running late. It's a bummer for sure, but wrecking a whole day's pay seems like a stretch unless it's a super tiny shop.

Reminds me of a time my buddy, a tattoo artist, had a full day cancel an hour before. He had blocked off six hours for a sleeve. That empty chair meant he lost the whole day's pay, not just the deposit. He couldn't just slot someone else in for a big piece like that. Ended up eating the cost of the prepped supplies too. It's a domino effect that really messes with your plans.
