My main pair of shears just snapped clean in half during a fade this morning.

Man, I totally disagree about the metal fatigue thing! I've seen shears snap from cheap steel, not just drops. Some brands use brittle metal that can't handle daily use. I had a pair crack just from normal cutting, no drops at all. It's often a manufacturing flaw, not how you treat them.

Exactly this, @gavin228. I had a pair of Fiskars from a batch that was known for bad heat treatment (found that out later). The blade snapped clean off while I was cutting through some light cardboard. No drops, no abuse, just a manufacturing defect hiding in plain sight. Max223 is right, some brands cut costs on the steel and it shows when the metal can't handle normal jobs.

Yeah that's the worst. I heard it's usually a metal fatigue thing from dropping them or tightening the tension screw too much. Time to dig out the backup pair I guess.
