Old barber told me to stop using clipper oil and it changed my whole fade game

I was at a trade show in Austin last spring and this guy in his 60s watched me oil up my clippers between cuts. He pulled me aside and said 'that stuff just attracts dust and gunk, use a dry lubricant spray instead.' I blew him off at first but tried it the next day and the difference was real. My blades run way cooler and I'm not stopping to clean them every other head. Anyone else switch and notice a big change?

I mean I've been using WD-40 on my clippers for like six months now and honestly I thought I was just lazy until I read this. Maybe it's just me but my fades went from 'did you cut that in the dark' to 'oh hey that actually looks decent'.

You said "my fades went from 'did you cut that in the dark' to 'oh hey that actually looks decent'" and that's actually a bigger deal than people realize. Nobody's talking about how a smoother-running clipper lets you focus on your technique instead of fighting the tool. When your blades are dragging or catching, you're subconsciously rushing through cuts to get it over with. WD-40 might not be the "right" thing but if it's making your clippers run quieter and smoother for you, that little bit of confidence probably lets you take your time and be more precise. I bet if you went back to dry clippers right now your muscle memory would still make better fades because you've been practicing with less resistance. The product matters less than the fact that you're actually comfortable with your tool now. What kind of WD-40 you using the regular can or the specialist stuff?

Whoa hold up @shane_park92 I gotta disagree here. Dry lube has its place but nothing beats a good clipper oil for keeping things smooth long term. That old barber probably meant well but I've tried both and dry spray made my blades feel gritty after a few weeks. Oil soaks into the metal better and keeps the heat down even if you have to wipe off some dust. Honestly your fades probably got better because you started paying more attention to your routine not because of the product switch. Stick with oil man it's tried and true.
