Picked the $18 clippers over the $90 set for my first year, still not sure that was smart

I grabbed a cheap pair of Wahl clippers back in March instead of the nicer set my mentor kept pushing, mostly because I was scared to drop that much cash before I even had a chair. They've held up okay for basic fades but I can already feel them dragging on thicker hair. Any of you start cheap and regret it, or did the budget stuff carry you long enough to upgrade?
