Rant: A client in Portland asked for a 'textured crop' and showed me a picture from a video game
He came in with a screenshot from a character in a game, wanting the exact same sharp, choppy lines. I had to explain that real hair doesn't pixelate like that. We ended up using thinning shears on dry hair to get a similar messy feel, but it took three tries to get the look right without making it too thin. Has anyone else had to translate a digital style into a real cut?

Yeah, the "sharp, choppy lines" thing is a real puzzle. I had a client bring in an anime character once. The key for me was using a razor on very small, vertical sections instead of shears. It gives that broken-up, piecey look without losing all the density. You have to work on dry hair and check the shape after every few cuts. It's a slow process but it gets closer to that graphic feel.

Oh man, I feel that. I once spent twenty minutes trying to explain to a guy that his Fortnite skin's hair color was literally impossible (it was like, glowing neon blue under black light, or something wild). We settled on a really dark blue that only showed in the sun.
