TIL a single hair grows about half an inch every month, and that number runs my whole week
I was reading a back issue of Barber Style mag in the shop last Tuesday and hit a stat that stopped me cold: the average head has around 100,000 hairs, and each one pushes out roughly half an inch a month. That means the regulars I see every 4 weeks are walking in with almost exactly half an inch of new growth, which is why my number 3 guard fades so clean on them but looks choppy on the guys who stretch it to 6 weeks. I've started writing the client's last cut date on their card instead of guessing, and my rebooking rate on the 4 week crowd is way up. Any of you track growth rate per client, or am I overthinking a stat from a magazine?
I keep a little notebook with last cut dates too, and the 4 week guys always look sharper than the 6 week ones. Half an inch is half an inch, so the math checks out.
