Tried a 30 minute hot towel treatment on a tough beard today

Got this older guy in the chair. Thick wiry beard, hadn't had a proper trim in months. Usually I just lather and go. Decided to wrap his face in hot towels for a full 30 minutes, swapping every 5. The hair softened way more than I expected. Cut through it clean with zero tugging. Customer said it felt like a spa day. Anyone else do extended towel treatments for coarse beards?

Yeah, I've been doing longer towel wraps for the thick ones for a while now. Makes a night and day difference on those wiry beards. Swapping towels every 5 minutes is the key, otherwise you're just letting things cool down.

Three minutes is plenty for most beards, I've found going longer just makes your face raw and irritated. Claire Davis has a point about the precision thing, softer hairs can get floppy and hard to line up cleanly. Plus all that swapping towels every 5 minutes is overkill when a quick warm rinse does the same job.
