Wrote off my grandpa's 1953 Ford tractor as junk until a guy in Abilene showed me the serial number
I figured the old 8N sitting in his Kansas barn since 1987 was a parts rig, rust everywhere and a seized motor. A guy at a tractor show in Abilene pointed out the casting codes and told me the block was a rare industrial version, so I pulled it, soaked the cylinders with ATF for 12 days, and it turned over by hand. How do you all figure out early whether a barn find is worth saving or just scrap?
Whoa, wait, 12 days of soaking and it just broke loose by hand? That never happens for me, mine usually laugh at the ATF and stay stuck. Crazy that a random guy at a show caught the industrial block before you scrapped the whole thing.
