My reels tanked after I switched to 3 hashtags, then bounced back at 11
I noticed something wild over the last 3 weeks messing with my Instagram reels. I used to throw like 25 hashtags on every post and got maybe 400 views, no big deal. Then I read a tip from a creator in Austin who said stick to 3 niche tags, so I tried it for a week straight. My views dropped to like 80 per reel, felt pointless, almost quit. But then I added two more tags, so 5 total, and one reel hit 12k views overnight. The weird part is the tags I used were super boring like #pottery and #ceramics, nothing fancy. I think the algorithm rewards consistency over keyword stuffing, but I'm still guessing. Has anyone else seen a sweet spot with hashtag counts that shifts like this?

Gotta disagree with the pattern you're seeing here. I've tested this exact thing across my own reels and the count never mattered as much as the content itself. One week I used 2 tags and got 30k views on a random clip, next week same tags and got 200. The algorithm feels way more random than that, like it picks based on watch time and shares, not tag count. Your 12k hit probably happened because the video was just better, not because you added two more hashtags.
