Vent: My engagement tanked after I tried that 'post at 6pm' advice
Last tuesday I switched my whole schedule to post at 6pm like all the gurus say. My reach dropped by 40% in 3 days and I got like 2 likes on a video I spent 2 hours editing. I think the algorithm hates when you force a time change instead of being consistent. Has anyone else had their feed completely die after switching up posting times?

yeah so I had this whole thing where I was posting at like 11am for months and everything was fine and then I read some article that said 8pm was the golden hour or whatever so I switched and my views just flatlined for like two weeks straight. I actually thought maybe my account got shadowbanned or something but nope, just the algorithm not vibing with the new time. I started to panic and almost deleted my whole channel but then I just went back to my old time and it slowly came back to life. I feel like these gurus don't account for how your own audience has their own habits, not some universal rule.

Huh, I gotta push back a little on that @troy_price. The time shift probably wasn't the main issue, it was that your audience just wasn't used to seeing you at 8pm yet. Two weeks is barely enough time for the algorithm to figure out the new schedule, let alone your regular viewers.

Wait, did you see that happen with someone else too? My buddy runs a small cooking channel and he tried the same thing after reading some post about posting at 5pm. He was used to dropping videos at noon when his people were on lunch break. He switched to 5pm and for a full week his views went from like 300 down to maybe 15. He said it felt like he was posting to an empty room. He stuck it out for two weeks before he gave up and went back to noon, and it took another week for his numbers to start climbing again. He still complains about that "golden hour" advice whenever we grab beers. What time were you posting before the switch?
