A guy in the elevator at my old office in Dallas said one sentence that I still think about 4 years later

I worked at a big insurance company in Dallas for about 3 years, and there was this older guy named Ray who was in IT. One Tuesday morning the elevator got stuck between floors 9 and 10 for like 12 minutes, and it was just me and him. I was freaking out a little and making small talk about how I was worried about a big meeting with our VP that day. Ray just looked at me and said, "They can't fire you for asking a question they can't answer." I asked what he meant, and he explained that in 20 years he had seen people get promoted not because they knew everything but because they asked the thing nobody else wanted to ask out loud. I ended up asking my VP why we were rolling out a new system without training, and she didn't have a good answer, and it actually started a whole review. Ray retired two years later and I never got to thank him. Has anyone else had a random coworker drop a line on them that actually changed how they work?
