Saw a badge printer spitting out 40 extra temp badges at the Denver office and nobody blinked
I was at our Denver campus on Tuesday for a vendor demo and walked past the security desk around 2pm. The badge printer was churning out temp badges with no names on them, just blank cards, and the guard kept stacking them in a drawer like it was normal. I asked a facilities guy I know there and he shrugged and mentioned they print a batch every afternoon for "walk-in overflow," which is a weird thing to prep for daily at a place with turnstiles. If your company hands out no-name temp badges at the front desk, how do they actually know who's in the building by 5pm?
That "walk-in overflow" line is doing a lot of work for a place with turnstiles, since turnstiles already mean everyone gets scanned in one at a time. If the front desk is handing out blank cards, the only record of who came and went is whatever the guard writes down, and guards get busy. So by 5pm you have a building full of people nobody can name, and the badge is basically a costume prop.
