Saw Something Weird at the Hoover Dam Tour Last Week
Went on the full dam tour last Thursday. The guide kept pointing out the 1935 concrete and how it's still solid. But I noticed these tiny cracks near the intake towers that nobody mentioned. I counted 14 of them in one section. Crews don't stop maintaining it, sure, but what if the whole structure is slowly flexing from the lake's weight? The lake level dropped 130 feet since 2000. That changes the pressure points. Has anyone else looked at this place and questioned the official 'it'll last 2000 years' line?

Fine, I'll admit my knowledge of dam engineering comes mostly from watching the History Channel while eating cereal, so my whole opinion is basically a guess with milk on it. Those cracks do sound like something worth getting a second look at though, I've seen enough concrete failures in parking garages to know warnings don't wait around politely.
