Tested my homemade hydro turbine against a store bought one in the creek behind my house

Built a PVC pipe rig with a car alternator for about 40 bucks, then bought a $250 commercial micro-hydro kit off Amazon. My janky setup actually produced 15 more watts on the same 10 foot drop. Anyone else tinker with off-grid water power and find the cheap DIY stuff beats the fancy gear?

My buddy once built a solar panel out of shower doors and tin foil, got 10 extra watts before it caught fire. Was it worth it? Kinda, for the story at least.
