Showerthought: I was sure the even split was fair until a $212 receipt and one guy's appetizer order
Went to dinner with 5 friends at a place in Sacramento last month, and I was always the guy saying just split it even, no big deal. Then the receipt hit $212 and I watched one guy put away two $16 plates plus a $14 cocktail while I had a $19 burger and water. So I asked for separate checks right there at the table, which felt weird for about ten seconds. The server didn't blink and everybody paid close to what they actually ate, and nobody was mad. How do you bring up separate checks before ordering without making it awkward?
