I accidentally watched a whole season in one night and learned something about myself

Last Tuesday I started a show called 'Pachinko' on a whim around 9pm. Next thing I knew, it was 4am and I had finished 8 episodes. I realized I don't actually need fancy plots or cliffhangers to binge something, just really good characters that make me care what happens next. Now I'm wondering if I should start shows on weekends only or if that's just a rule I'll break immediately. Has anyone else had a show just suck them in out of nowhere like that?

Wait was Pachinko really that good? I've been scrolling past it thinking it's just another period drama but now I'm curious. It's wild how a show with zero action or crazy twists can still glue you to the couch, right? I had that happen with 'Somebody Somewhere' on HBO, just a woman singing and hanging out with her friend, and bam, it's 3am and I've cried three times. I swear the secret is just characters who feel like people you'd actually text, not like they're trying to win an award. And yeah, your weekend rule is doomed lol, I tried that with 'The Bear' and broke it before the first commercial break.

Three seasons of people being sad and nobody shoots a gun?

Oh absolutely, @murphy.tessa, you nailed it. I had the same thing happen with "Detectorists" on BBC - it's literally about two guys with metal detectors finding old coins in a field, and I was sobbing into my tea by episode three. Zero drama, no explosions, just people being kind and awkward and failing at small things. That show hooked me harder than any thriller ever could, and I think it's because the characters feel like they walked out of my own neighborhood. Your weekend rule is doomed for sure, I tried the same thing and now I'm three seasons deep into "All Creatures Great and Small" instead of doing my taxes.
