I finally caved and watched The Bear after avoiding it for months

I was sure this show was going to be another overhyped chef drama that doesn't live up to the noise. Then my brother in Chicago made me watch the first episode and I was hooked by the end of the credits. The chaos in that kitchen and the way they handle grief really got me. So for those who were skeptical like me, what show turned out to be better than you expected?

Wait wait wait, your brother MADE you watch it? My guy, I had to beg my roommate for weeks and she still gave me the side eye. But the grief stuff you mentioned, that's what got me too. When Richie finally got that deep dish scene right and the song hit, I was literally crying over my takeout. I mean maybe it's just me but that whole kitchen chaos felt way too real, like I could smell the stress through my TV.

The trick is to just put it on when they're around but not make a big deal about it. I did that with my sister and the bear, just had it playing while I was doing dishes and she sat down halfway through the first episode. Next thing I knew she was asking me to pause so she could grab a snack. Try low key exposure, it works way better than begging or making promises about how good it is.

Oh man, you're close but that was actually a hot dog, not deep dish! I had to rewind and check because the stress of that scene got me too. But yeah the grief stuff is what hooked me hard. My brother kept saying "you'll get it when you see it" and I was like ok sure whatever. Then the whole Marcus and his mom storyline hit and I was ugly crying into my pillow at 2am. The way they show you losing someone is like this quiet constant ache not just the big dramatic moments. And that kitchen chaos you mentioned is legit genius because cooking under pressure is basically grief in metaphor form. Everyone messing up orders and burning stuff, it's like the mess your brain becomes when you're sad.
