I finally watched The Wire after years of hype and I honestly don't get the love
Last Saturday my buddy Dave sat me down at his place in Dayton and put on the first three episodes of The Wire, and he kept pausing to say "see, this is the greatest show ever made." I went in wanting to love it, I really did, but around episode four I was checking my phone and he noticed. He got kind of quiet and then said, "You're not gonna like it, are you?" and I had to be honest with him. The pacing is so slow, the dialogue took me a while to follow, and I never felt that pull to hit next episode like I get with other shows. He tried to argue it was a slow burn that pays off, and maybe he's right, but I gave it a full season and never got hooked. I know that puts me in the minority since everyone calls it the best show ever, but I just don't see it. Has anyone else bounced off The Wire after giving it a real shot, or is Dave right that I need to push through season two?
