I realized I was watching shows all wrong after my friend in Denver said he never skips the opening credits.

I was always mashing 'skip intro' to get to the story faster, but he pointed out how the 'Severance' title sequence actually sets the whole creepy, detached mood, and now I feel like I missed a key part of the experience with other shows.

Guess @drew_jones31 and I are the only ones who actually watched the "Game of Thrones" map grow...

Your friend is right. I started paying attention to the opening for "True Detective" season one and it completely changed how I saw the show. Now I never skip them.

Agree completely, @aaronsullivan. That opening is a full mood, isn't it? It sets the tone before a single line of dialogue. Makes me wonder, what was the first show where you noticed an opening sequence doing that heavy lifting? For me, it was probably "The Wire.
