My buddy told me to stick with The Wire for 4 episodes and now I get it

So my friend Kevin kept saying The Wire was the best show ever made but I couldnt get past the first episode. Too slow and too many characters to keep track of. He told me to just power through 4 episodes and if I still hated it then quit. Took me three days to watch those but by episode 3 I was hooked. Finished all 5 seasons in about 3 weeks after that. Has anyone else had a show where you had to push through a slow start before it clicked?

Oh man The Wire is the perfect example of this... I had the same thing with Breaking Bad actually. My brother kept telling me it gets good after the first season and I almost quit like three times but then by the end of season 2 I was completely hooked. Some shows just take a minute to build up all the pieces before they really start moving. That payoff is so worth it though when you finally get into the rhythm of it all.

Right, because who doesn't love watching twenty hours of setup for twelve hours of payoff?

Nah, I'm the exact opposite of that. lmao. Give me a show that jumps right into the action and doesn't waste my time with a bunch of boring groundwork. If I need a full season of homework before things get interesting, I'm out. Life's too short to wait that long for a payoff that might not even land. A good story should grab you in the first episode, not six months later.
