Shoutout to the weird Norwegian show that made me eat crow
So for like 2 years my buddy kept pushing this show called Occupied on me, and I kept saying nah, political thrillers are too slow for my ADHD brain. Then last month I got sick with a nasty cold and ran out of stuff to watch, so I finally hit play on episode one. Turns out he was right, I was wrong, big time. That show hooks you in the first 15 minutes with this crazy premise about Norway cutting oil and getting invaded by Russia, but it's not all action, it's like a slow burn chess game. I blew through all 24 episodes in 4 days, even the subtitles didn't slow me down. Has anyone else been dead wrong about a show they refused to try, and what finally got you to give in?
Wait, did you watch the whole thing in English or with subs? Because I had the exact same thing happen with a show called Borgen, also Danish, and I told everyone it was just boring politics. Then my sister basically locked me in a room with her laptop and forced me to watch one episode. Four seasons later I was the one begging her to rewatch it with me. That slow burn thing is real, once you get past the first twenty minutes you're hooked and suddenly subtitles are no big deal. It's like my whole "I'm too restless for foreign shows" excuse was total garbage, I just needed the right story.
