Showerthought: I gave up on a show after one episode, then my friend made me watch the whole first season.

I tried 'Severance' last year and turned it off halfway through the first episode because it felt too slow. My friend in Chicago insisted I watch the first five episodes, so I did over a weekend. The show completely changes after episode 4, and now it's one of my favorite shows ever. Has anyone else had a show that needed a few episodes to really hook you?

Almost gave up on Breaking Bad because the first season felt so slow. Stuck with it because a friend swore it got insane. By the end of season two I was totally hooked. The slow build was actually setting everything up perfectly. Now I see those early episodes in a totally different light. It went from a chore to one of my favorite shows ever.

That "almost quit but now love" thing @the_terry mentioned is so true for shows and other stuff. I gave up on The Office after the first few episodes because Michael was too cringey. Now it's my comfort watch. It makes me wonder how many good things, like hobbies or even friendships, we walk away from before they get good. What was the show for you?

The "almost quit but now love" thing really hits home. For me it was Parks and Rec. The first season felt like a bad Office ripoff and I almost bailed entirely. A coworker kept pushing me to stick with it, saying it finds its own voice in season two. I'm glad I listened because now it's one of my all time favorites and I've watched it through like four times. You're right about missing out on stuff if you tap out too early.
