The motel clerk in Tucumcari got me hooked on a show I swore I'd hate
I was driving through New Mexico two weeks ago and stopped for the night at this tiny motel in Tucumcari. The clerk had a little TV behind the desk and some show was playing, and I made a joke about how I don't do period dramas. She just laughed and said give it 20 minutes. I ended up sitting in the lobby until 1am watching with her while she sorted keys, which is a weird way to start a show but that's how it happened. When I got home I pulled it up and burned through 6 episodes in one night, which I have not done since college. What got me was how quiet it is, no big twists every 5 minutes, just people being people and the camera holding on their faces. I'm not gonna name it because the fun was her picking it, but it's the kind of slow show that sneaks up on you. Does anyone else have a show they got into because a total stranger put it on? I still can't believe I watched four hours of TV in a motel lobby.
