A guy in Amarillo told me to forge my bottle openers from 3/8 round instead of flat bar and it finally clicked
Went from fighting cold shuts on every bend to knocking out 6 clean ones in an hour, all because the round stock moves way nicer under the hammer for that twist. Has anyone else switched stock shape for a small project and wondered why they waited so long?
Does it really matter that much what shape the stock is, or did the guy just happen to give you advice at the right moment? Lots of folks forge openers from flat bar with zero issues, so maybe the win came more from practice than the steel. Take it with a grain of salt, but I would not go rewriting the rulebook over one good afternoon.
