Had to pick between a gas forge and a coal forge for my shop
I was setting up my first real workspace outside of Portland and had to choose between a two-burner gas forge from Majestic or building a coal forge from an old brake drum. I went with the gas forge because I couldn't deal with the smoke and soot in a residential area, plus coal prices jumped 30% last year around here. It works fine for most stuff but I miss the heat control you get with coal, especially when welding up Damascus billets. Anyone else run into this choice and regret not going the other way?

Don't you find most decisions come down to where you live and what you can get away with? It's like picking an EV over a gas truck, practical beats pure performance every time.

Practical beats pure performance" - tell that to my 2002 Corolla that's still running.
