Hot take: I thought coal forges were just for show until I had to fix a 1920s gate in Spokane.

What did the coal forge let you do that a modern one couldn't?

I hear you man, it's tough when you realize the old gear just had something special. With my coal forge I could really control the heat in a way that gas just doesn't match, especially for welding and getting that soft, even soaking heat for bigger pieces. Modern forges are convenient but they feel sterile sometimes, like they don't let you feel the metal the same way. It's a real bummer when progress takes away the feel of the craft.

Totally! Old ways solve new problems all the time.
