My coal forge went from clinker city to clean in about 20 minutes and I'm kind of mad about it
I spent months fighting clinkers and cold spots in my coal forge, to the point where I almost switched to gas. Found out my firepot was sitting way too high in the pan, so the air was blowing over the fire instead of up through it. Dropped it down 2 inches with some scrap flat bar and the difference in one afternoon was wild. Now the fire burns hot and even and I'm pulling my irons out at orange in half the time. What dumb little setup thing did you guys fight way too long before figuring it out?
Ha, that rail height thing is real but I gotta push back a bit on the air blowing over the fire part. If your pot was sitting high in the pan, the blower air was going under the pot and out the sides, not over the top of the coal. Same result, cold fire and clinkers everywhere, but the fix was sealing the gap, not the height itself. Either way dropping it and closing that space is what got you there, glad it clicked.
