Pro tip: That guy who said don't use rebar as a drift is still right

I tried it anyway last week on a sloppy punch job and mushroomed the end in like 3 hits. Still stuck in my anvil's hardy hole, had to grind it out for an hour.

Why does everyone learn this the hard way?

Grind down a piece of key stock to the right size and taper the end instead. Rebar has that rough texture and inconsistent shape, so it binds up way worse than something like cold rolled steel. I keep a couple of dedicated drifts I turned down on a bench grinder one afternoon, and they slide right through with a tap. The hour you spent grinding could have been avoided with ten minutes of prep.

And @thomas_sanchez is probably the one who learned that the hard way, right? I'm just picturing someone trying to hammer a bent rebar through a hole and it taking an hour of pure frustration. Next time I'll just steal your trick and call it a day.
