Rant: I thought the old-timer's water test for judging steel temp was nonsense, but it saved a batch last week
Tried his trick of dripping water on a heated billet before quench, and the sizzle told me way more than my color reading did. Anyone else got a low-tech test that actually holds up better than the gadgets?
