Spent 3 hours trying to get a clean weld on a gate hinge

Turns out my cheap flux core wire was the problem, not my technique. Switched to a name brand spool and got a perfect bead on the first try. Anyone else run into this with budget welding supplies?

Yeah, the cheap flux core wire is such a trap. I burned through a whole project blaming myself before I tried the good stuff. It's crazy how much difference the wire alone makes.

My uncle runs a small fabrication shop and he told me they only buy Lincoln or Hobart brand flux core now. He said the cheap stuff can have inconsistent wire diameter, which totally messes with the feed and the arc. It made his new guys think they were doing everything wrong.

Learned that lesson the hard way too.
