Can we talk about how I was sure vinyl was just hipster noise until I heard Dark Side of the Moon on my dad's old turntable?
I spent years rolling my eyes at the vinyl revival. My buddy in Austin kept bugging me to come over and hear his setup, and I kept saying digital was cleaner and cheaper. Last month he finally got me to sit down in his garage with a cheap pair of headphones and a $15 copy of Dark Side of the Moon he found at a thrift store. The pops and crackle bugged me at first, but about halfway through side one something clicked. It felt like the music had a room around it instead of just being piped straight into my skull. I still stream almost everything on my phone, so I am not about to start hunting for a $400 turntable. But I get it now. Is it just certain records that hit different on vinyl, or does it hold up across the board once you get used to the noise?
