Found a box of 8-track tapes at a garage sale in Akron last Saturday
I grabbed 12 of them for $5 because the guy said they belonged to his dad who was a huge Springsteen fan. Has anyone else ever tried playing an 8-track on a modern setup or is it just a nightmare waiting to happen?

The original setup was probably better for those tapes anyway.

That "the original setup was probably better" thing is a pattern I see everywhere now, people always think older gear was somehow superior but mostly they just remember the good parts. lol truth is those 8-track players were kinda clunky even back then with the track switching and the tape hiss. If you really want to hear them modern players and converters exist but honestly you're better off finding the same albums on vinyl or streaming unless you just wanna mess around for fun.

Funny you mention that, my uncle had an 8-track player in his old pickup and we spent half the time trying to get the track to switch right. I remember one time we were driving down a bumpy road and the thing just started clicking back and forth every five seconds. So yeah, the original setup might have been "better" in some nostalgic sense but it was definitely not practical.
