My 1994 CD player finally gave up after 30 years, now what?
Last Tuesday my old Technics from high school started skipping on every disc, then just stopped spinning altogether. I cracked it open and the belt turned to goo, anyone else hit this and found a good replacement part source?
Man, that brings back memories of my old Sony from like 1998. I didn't even know the belt was a thing until mine did the exact same thing, just turned into this black sticky mess inside. I spent a whole weekend trying to clean it out with alcohol and q-tips, looked like I was performing surgery on the thing. Found a guy on eBay selling a whole pack of belts for like eight bucks, guess they fit a bunch of different models. Took me three tries to get the tension right, but it spun up again and worked for another few years until the laser gave out. It kinda felt like fixing an old car, you fix one part and another thing just wears out eventually. Maybe look for a parts deck on Craigslist or something, people sell those things for next to nothing when they think they're broken.
