Overheard a 20-year-old say GoldenEye 007 aged like milk

Was at a retro game store in Portland last weekend and this kid was telling his friend the N64 controls are unplayable. Made me think about how we all have this nostalgia filter that makes clunky games feel perfect. Is there a cutoff year where old games actually become bad, or does every generation just defend what they grew up with?

Stepping away for a day and coming back to a game like that usually helps me see it for what it is. Sometimes the nostalgia wears off and you realize you just liked it because it was all you had.

That nostalgia filter is real and it hits hard. GoldenEye was amazing in 1997 but those controls are legit rough now. Every generation has their sacred cow that younger players just don't get.

Man I went through this exact thing with the original Battlefront 2 on PS2. Fired it up last year thinking I'd have a blast and nope, those camera controls and lack of sprint just killed it for me. What helped was sitting down with it for like an hour without judging it too hard, just accepting that games worked different back then. The nostalgia wears off and you can either appreciate it for what it was or move on, no shame in either.
