Realized I was rewinding tapes wrong for 20 years after watching my dad do it once
So I grew up on VHS and always thought you had to hit stop first, then rewind, then play. Did that my whole life. Last month my dad came over and just hit rewind directly from play and the tape did the whole thing in like 4 seconds. I stood there with my mouth open. He looked at me like I was nuts and said "you never read the manual?" I didnt even know there was a manual. Has anyone else been doing some basic thing wrong this whole time and found out by accident? What was it?

Oh man, that's like when I found out you could just press the gas pedal harder to make a stick shift start moving on a hill. I stalled for years thinking you had to do some fancy foot dance or use the parking brake. My buddy finally yelled at me from the passenger seat, "just give it more gas, you idiot." Changed my whole driving life. Also, I didn't learn until my 30s that you're supposed to peel a banana from the bottom, not the stem. My sister showed me that and I felt like I'd been lied to by every cartoon I ever watched. It's wild how we just pick up habits and never question them, even when they make things way harder.
