That 1984 Casio keyboard sounded better than my $200 midi setup

Found my uncle's old Casio SK-1 at a garage sale last month for 5 bucks. Plugged it in and the lo-fi samples just hit different, all crunchy and warm. My modern midi controller does everything cleaner but I keep going back to that thing for ideas. Has anyone else dug out an old toy keyboard or synth and felt like it beat your current gear for getting songs started?
